Guayedra is a beautiful and leafy valley located on the Northwest coast of Gran Canaria just 5 km away. from the famous town of Agaete and its fishing port of Las Nieves. During the conquest of Gran Canaria (1478-1483), the last indigenous king Tenesor Semidan of Gran Canaria (later called Fernando Guanarteme) agreed with the Catholic Monarchs a peace agreement in which the principal indigenous nobles accepted to Christianize in exchange for annexing the island except the Guayedra Valley, which they considered sacred. There, a small settlement formed by 40 native families was established. In the valley there are three important archaeological sites and many hiking trails.
